Public invited to join service of thanksgiving for HM The Queen
The public are invited to attend a service of thanksgiving and commemoration for the life and reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in Great Yarmouth on Sunday.
The special civic service will take place at Great Yarmouth Minster at 6pm on Sunday, 18 September 2022.
The service will be led by the Revd Canon Simon Ward, with readings by the Deputy Lieutenant of Norfolk, Jane Cator, and the Mayor of Great Yarmouth, Cllr Graham Plant.
The sermon and blessing will be given by the Bishop of Thetford, the Rt Revd Alan Winton.
The service is free to attend and tickets are not required. Those attending are advised to wear clothing in keeping with the national period of mourning.
The service will include a minute's silence. Separately, a National Moment of Reflection will be observed at 8pm on Sunday and the public are invited to mark this at home or in their local communities.
St Nicholas' Church and Priory was founded by then Bishop of Norwich Herbert de Losinga in 1101. It is the largest parish church in the country.
The church was completely gutted during a German air raid in 1942 leaving only the Norman tower and the walls standing. It was rebuilt and reconsecrated in 1961, and in 2011 St Nicholas' Church was designated a Minster Church.
