Electric reception for Great Yarmouth at energy conference
The benefits of Great Yarmouth as a base for the energy sector have been centre stage at an industry conference this week.
Representatives from Great Yarmouth Borough Council attended the Southern North Sea 2022 conference at the Norfolk Showground to explain what the town has to offer.
The team over two days included Cllr Daniel Candon, chair of the economic development committee; Cllr Graham Plant, mayor of Great Yarmouth and Sheila Oxtoby, chief executive.
The borough is currently benefiting from significant investment in projects to support the energy sector, including a £120m third river crossing improving connections between the outer harbour and industrial areas, a £20m operations and maintenance campus, and a business incubator scheme.
The conference is an important part of the industry calendar, and is attended by major energy firms including ScottishPower, Vattenfall and EDF.
The Council's director of planning and strategic growth David Glason addressed the conference, and councillors and officers spoke to delegates as part of the GENERATE stand.
GENERATE is a pioneering partnership of regional business and political leaders leading the way for future investment and development of the energy sector in Norfolk and Suffolk.
Cllr Candon said: "Great Yarmouth has so much to offer to the energy industry. We are perfectly placed geographically, and we have major investment in place to encourage businesses to bring new jobs to the area. The reception has been great, and people are keen to hear what we can offer."
