Public to enjoy Town Hall attractions as part of Great Yarmouth Maritime Festival

Overlooking the festival site, the Grade II-listed building will be open from 10am to 4.30pm on both days, giving visitors the chance to explore the beautifully-decorated rooms, which are also available to hire for weddings and other celebrations.

Families will have a chance to complete the Town Hall Trail, exploring the rich history of the borough through the civic regalia, artworks and other objects on display. The Mayor's Parlour, normally kept locked, will also be specially open with a display of regalia.

The Falcon's Gallery will host an exhibition of works by the Great Yarmouth Guild of Artists and Craftsmen, and there will be displays by the Great Yarmouth, Gorleston and Norwich Model Boat Clubs in the Assembly Room, Supper Room and other parts of the Town Hall.

In the Assembly Room, visitors will also be able to enjoy refreshments from the café bar on both days, while listening to live music from The Rouge Shanties on Sunday. At 11am and 2pm on both days, Natural England is inviting people to a talk in the Council Chamber to raise awareness of marine pollution and how this can be addressed. 

Cllr Barry Coleman, chairman of the economic development committee, said: "Overlooking Historic South Quay, the Town Hall is steeped in the borough's maritime heritage. The Town Hall is a popular attraction during the Maritime Festival, especially as there are some exciting things happening inside. I urge all festival-goers to pay a visit."

In addition to the Town Hall attractions, The Trawlers, a fun walkabout act comprising two bearded fishermen on stilts, will be delighting visitors to the Market Place on Saturday as part of Go Trade, a cross-Channel project to boost traditional markets.
