As part of a programme of investment and regeneration, Great Yarmouth Borough Council is commissioning a public art trail circular route around the town and a sculpture for the newly landscaped Market Place.

Great Yarmouth has been a seaside resort since the early 1700s. Tourism is big business locally, worth £631m per annum to the area. 28% of all jobs in the area are tourism related. A five-year Tourism Business Improvement District was implemented in 2014 and again in 2019 for a further five years to help grow tourism.

Our sandy beaches stretch almost continuously for over 15 miles and have been awarded both the coveted Blue Flag and Marine Conservation Society awards. A beach wheelchair is available to hire for free at Great Yarmouth and Gorleston.

Since medieval times, Great Yarmouth has been surrounded by one of the most complete town walls in England. Eleven of the original towers - built between 1261 and 1400 - have survived. Our quaysides along the river Yare showcase fantastic examples of historic merchant houses, while the seafront has one of the best collections of Edwardian entertainment architecture in the country.

The Waterways was reopened as a collective site on the 20 August 2019 following a major restoration of the historic Venetian Waterways and Boating Lake.
