People invited to drop-in session to find out more about bus works in Great Yarmouth
With work now underway in the centre of Great Yarmouth, taxi drivers and local businesses are being invited to a drop-in session to discuss ongoing improvements to the bus station with the opportunity to look at the plans and learn more about the scheme.
Officers from Norfolk County Council - which is leading the project - and Great Yarmouth Borough Council will be on hand to answer queries and listen to feedback about the scheme.
The event takes place from 10am until 2pm on Wednesday, February 5, in Unit 13 (next to the B&M store) in the Market Gates shopping centre in the town.
A spokesperson for Great Yarmouth Borough Council said: ''The scheme taking place in the Market Gates area is designed to improve journey times and traffic flow in Great Yarmouth.
''We know the work is disruptive in the short-term for those using buses and we know some taxi drivers are unhappy the rank outside the Troll Cart on Temple Road is not in operation. We hope the nearby rank on Theatre Plain provides a convenient alternative. Once the works are complete, the taxi rank outside the Troll Cart will be in use every day between 11pm and 5am.''
As well as answering questions and addressing concerns where possible, Norfolk County Council officers will have information about the next phases of improvements and how they will affect roads and bus stops.
Norfolk County Council says the work, which followed a public consultation, is designed to improve public transport in the town by enabling two-way bus travel through the Market Gates Interchange.
It says it will make bus journeys quicker and more reliable, separate buses from general traffic and help boost the local economy.
The aim is to help future-proof public transport in Great Yarmouth, where the new Herring Bridge has already had an impact on traffic movements. About 1.2m passengers every year currently use the Market Gates interchange and that number is expected to increase with improved transport links at the rail station and continued investment in bus services across the region.
