Great Yarmouth Borough Council appeals for information after series of fly-tipping incidents

Great Yarmouth Borough Council is appealing for information following a series of fly-tipping incidents along quiet country roads.

Fly-tipped tyres near Martham

Since Christmas, the council has been alerted to three cases of a number of tyres being illegally dumped close to Martham and West Somerton. Officers said there may be more cases they are unaware of.

A GYBC spokesperson said: ''We think it may well be one person who is dumping tyres in a number of locations on Horsey Road near West Somerton and on Hemsby Road, Martham.

''Tyres are being fly-tipped on the road verge or in drainage ditches and we need people's help to find those responsible. Our teams have safely removed what they can, but the environmental damage this illegal and unsightly activity is causing needs to be stopped.''

The most recent report of dumped tyres came last week as the council's rangers continue to work hard with the community to educate people about waste and improving the environment.

Councillor Paul Wells, Great Yarmouth Borough Council's portfolio holder for Environment and Sustainability, Licensing and Waste, said: ''We know people are working so hard to keep their neighbourhoods tidy and, where possible, we will always prosecute people who have no consideration for others and the environment.

''If people dispose of waste properly we can reduce fly-tipping and improve recycling rates. We urge people to report problems to us and provide us with any information they can to help us take the action we know our residents want.''

Great Yarmouth Borough Council's waste collection service means people need only pay for what they use because the charge is per item. It said bulky items of waste should always be disposed of legally and can be taken to the Caister Recycling Centre in Pump Lane or collected by a licensed waste carrier.
