Privacy Notice: CCTV use (Novus Centre)
About us: Great Yarmouth Borough Council (the Council), Town Hall, Hall Plain Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, NR30 2QF, 01493 856100, is the data controller for the purposes of the UK General Data Protection Regulations (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
How we will use your data: We will use your personal data for the purposes of increasing personal safety, reducing incidents of violence and aggressive behaviour and to support the Police in reducing and detecting crime. This may include using recordings as evidence of criminal activity in court prosecutions or investigations. We may also lawfully use your data for the prevention and detection of fraud or to carry out investigations to protect the Health and Safety of staff and visitors as well as to investigate allegations made against staff.
The Council will by way of CCTV record (no audio) personal data during your visit to the Novus Centre and do so under Article 6(1)(e) GDPR as this is in the public interest or in the exercise of official functions namely the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 and Protection of Freedoms Act 2012. Section 163 of the Criminal justice and Public Order Act 1994 also provides local authorities with the powers to use closed-circuit television. This is also in the public interest in reducing crime and increasing safety.
Data Sharing: Your data will be used for specific purpose as set out above although your details may be shared between Council departments and other agencies who use the Novus Centre where there is a lawful authority to do so.
Your data will be kept strictly confidential. It will be stored in a secure password-protected database. Data is only retained for up to 30 days unless required for criminal or internal proceedings in which case it will be stored on encrypted memory stick.
How long we hold your data: In normal circumstances your personal data will be kept for up to 30 days as stated on the Council's Retention Schedule. We will only use your data within the terms of the data protection laws. At the end of the retention period your personal data will be securely destroyed unless required for criminal or internal proceedings where it will then be deleted 31 days after it is no longer required for those purposes.
Your rights: You have a number or rights available to you, including the potential right to see copies of all the data held about you, to ask for it to be corrected or deleted, to request the Council to restrict what it does with your data in certain circumstances, to object to what the Council may do with your data, and to data portability.
Please note that these rights are not absolute and there are circumstances where they do not apply or the Council may override these rights, however, if this is the case you will be informed of this.
