Street naming and numbering: change of use or business name changes and removals
Does your property also require numbering or removal of numbers?
Example 1
You may be changing a café, which has vacated flats above it, into retail premises and decide to use the flats for either storage purposes or incorporate them into the business. In this instance the flat numbers will need to be removed and the business name changed. This will be reflected on the Royal Mail database and Local Authority records.
Example 2
If your property was formerly a business which you are converting into residential dwellings, then numbers will have to be allocated as well as the business name removed.
Example 3
If your property is to be demolished, then the full address will need to be removed from our records.
How to apply
Please make sure you enclose a site plan or map, and give a contact phone number in case we have any queries.
What we will do:
- once we hace checked that the proposed name is appropriate and issued property numbers if necessary, we will consult with the Royal Mail and then confirm your new address with you
- the Council, in offering this service, will undertake all necessary consultation and will inform all relevant agencies and Council departments of your address within 21 days, a list of which will be sent to you on completion
Caveat
Please note that once all relevant agencies have been notified it then becomes their responsibility to update their records and databases accordingly. The Council can not be held responsible if they fail to do so and any complaints in regard to this should be forwarded directly to the agencies concerned.
Please note: this form is for business use only. If you wish to change the name of a dwelling, a separate form is available instead.
