Council invites residents and visitors to jingle all the way around Gorleston's Priory Gardens this Christmas

The council is joining forces with Gorleston Traders Association to bring an addition to the winter programme this year, inviting residents and visitors to rock around the Christmas tree in Priory Gardens as it hosts its very own Christmas in the Parks event.

Running from Friday 26 through to Sunday 28 November, the gardens will be decked out with stalls of food, beverages, arts, crafts and gifts, as well as hosting Santa's post office, where children can post their wish lists to the man himself.

The three-day festive extravaganza will attract hundreds of families to enjoy the festivities in the park, as well as an opportunity to tour the illuminated high street by riding the road train and enjoy the fair ground rides.

The Christmas in the Parks event at the Priory Gardens, Priory Street, in Gorleston is funded by Visit Great Yarmouth.

Lyndon Bevan, Chairman of Visit Great Yarmouth, said Christmas in the Parks was designed as a welcome new family event to attract visitors and local people into Gorleston after a "very different" run up to Christmas last year.

"We wanted to bring a winter wonderland to Priory Gardens that generations can enjoy together and make memories.

"The three-day event will draw visitors in to Gorleston as well as offering local family's festive fun as everyone looks forward to Christmas.  We are delighted to be able to provide the start of what we believe will be a wonderful Christmas 2021 for our visitors and local residents."

Cllr Adrian Thompson, the mayor of Great Yarmouth, will conclude the festivities on Sunday 28 with the light switch on at 5 pm.

Cllr Graham Plant, chairman of the economic committee, said: "Our Christmas light switch on in Gorleston is always a popular seasonal tradition, marking the start of the festive shopping season and bringing hundreds of extra families into Gorleston at an important time for retailers.

"Availability of trading space is limited, so please book quickly to secure a place."
