Excitement builds in Gorleston as first new beach huts arrive on seafront
THE first batch of brand new wooden beach huts has arrived on Gorleston seafront, with the keys set to be handed over soon to the new owners.
Great Yarmouth Borough Council has taken delivery of an initial six huts, facing the sand along the Lower Promenade, with contractor Lesko Modular due to deliver a further six in early June.
The council has planning permission to place up to 70 beach huts at Gorleston, bringing a great new offer for the resort while generating additional funding to support important public services which everyone benefits from.
With further huts available for purchase, those interested are asked to direct enquiries to Aldreds Estate Agents, in Gorleton High Street, which is undertaking the sales and marketing on the council's behalf.
The huts measure 3x3 metres, including a veranda and double doors, and are built of wood with a pitched roof. Owners can choose to paint their beach hut in a wide variety of colours. Under an associated 25-year ground rent lease, owners have access to a dedicated amenity block, with wash basins and toilets.
Following independent valuation, the purchase price is £19,800, plus £900 annual ground rent (both VAT inclusive), which is within the asking price range for beach huts.
Owners are responsible for the upkeep of their huts, including painting, repairs, maintenance, insurance and arranging any resale. After these initial two batches, huts will be placed as they are sold.
Cllr Carl Smith, the council leader, said: "These brand new beach huts, facing Gorleston's famous golden sands, are a great new offer which will help to boost Gorleston as a popular visitor destination.
"Gorleston is the perfect location for a holiday, described recently by director Danny Boyle as 'very beautiful' and 'one of the great secrets of England' when he visited to film the key scenes for his new summer blockbuster.
"The arrival of the first batch of new beach huts is an exciting and much-anticipated milestone. There is still the opportunity to buy your own hut by contacting Aldreds, which saw overnight queuing outside of their Gorleston office when sales opened last October.
"After that initial rush, we expect sales to pick up again as the first new owners take possession of the keys and start painting their huts, further huts arrive, the summer approaches and Danny Boyle's film hits cinemas."
James Pleszko, CEO of Lesko, said: "As manufacturers of residential and leisure products built to UK Building Regulations, Lesko Modular were delighted to be awarded the contract to manufacture and supply the beautiful Norfolk coastline with our beach huts.
"The beach huts are a great addition to the seafront and we look forward to seeing them in an array of colours being used in the coming weeks, months and years. It has been a pleasure working with Great Yarmouth Borough Council on this project and we look forward to supplying more. I would like to extend my thanks to our team for their dedication to this project."
