Residents urged to walk, cycle or take a bus or train to Haven Great Yarmouth air show

Organisers are encouraging farther-flung visitors to use park and ride and public transport, which is running extra services.

But the message to locals is "leave your car at home if you can" in a bid to ease congestion at the new two-day event which is expected to attract 175,000 visitors over June 16 and 17.

Air show director Asa Morrison said: "It is going to be busy and we are trying to keep as much traffic out of town as possible.

"We are encouraging people to use the park and ride, service buses, trains, or to cycle and walk."

A traffic management plan aims to balance the interests of security, residents, traders and visitors.

A leaflet being sent to local homes outlines traffic advice including:
• Marine Parade will be closed to vehicles from 6pm Friday until 8am Monday
• Seafront sideroads near the display site will be closed for public safety from 8pm Thursday
• Cars parked illegally in closure areas may be towed away

More than 120 concrete road closure blocks will begin appearing on the seafront in the days leading up the event.

First Bus are running more services between Norwich and Great Yarmouth. On Saturday daytime the X1/X11 will be increased from every 15 mins to every 10 mins. On Sunday the routes will run every 30 minutes instead of 15.

On both days larger buses will be used where possible and extra buses added where needed. Evening buses will be double instead of single deckers.

Greater Anglia say they are adding extra train services for the air show but warned passengers that trains and stations would be very busy on both days.

Two drop-in sessions for residents to see road closure plans are being held at the Tourist Information Centre on Marine Parade on June 6 (3pm-5pm and 5.30pm-7.30pm).
