Gambling premises licence
What is the Council's Statement of Principles?
Licensing authorities are required by the Gambling Act 2005 to publish a statement of the principles they propose to apply when exercising their functions. This statement must be published at least every three years. The statement must also be reviewed from 'time to time' and any amended parts consulted upon again. The statement must then be republished.
The Gambling policy for the Great Yarmouth borough was published on 17 December 2021 and will come into effect on 31 January 2022.
Review of Gambling policy
Under the Gambling Act 2005, licensing authorities are required to review their Statement of Principles (Gambling Policy) every three years. As our current policy expires on 31 January 2025 we need to review it and this includes completing a public consultation on the new document.
The Policy must set out the principles which we propose to apply in exercising our licensing functions under the Act. It has been updated to reflect changes in legislation, Gambling Commission guidance and local related matters.
Section 349(3) of the Act requires the Licensing Authority to consult on its Policy Statement with the police, those who represent the interests of gambling businesses in their area and those which represent interested persons likely to be affected.
The consultation period begins on 5 August 2024 and you are invited to comment on the draft Policy document until 4 October 2024.
At the end of the consultation period, any comments will be considered and the policy amended as appropriate. The final policy will be confirmed by Full Council on 12 December 2024 and take effect on 31 January 2025.
Anyone wishing to make comments will need to do so by 4 October 2024 and I would point out that any comments received will be published as part of the policy adoption process.
