People invited to Great Yarmouth Market Place drop-in session

Great Yarmouth Borough Council is inviting market traders, local businesses and members of the public to a drop-in session to find out more about works to improve the Market Place as the project approaches completion.

New paving has been installed at Great Yarmouth Market Place as part of the public realm works

Representatives from the council, the construction team from Tarmac and project managers will be on hand to discuss progress and answer any questions people may have about the works, which are on target to be completed in time for the Easter holidays and the town's Easter Fair.

The drop-in session will take place in Unit 7 of the covered market in Great Yarmouth Market Place between 10am and 2pm on Wednesday, March 5.

A spokesperson for Great Yarmouth Borough Council said: ''Work is going well and we are entering the final exciting phase of the works. With new paving being installed in the southern end of the Market Place the vibrancy of the completed scheme is really starting to show.

''The impact on stall holders and businesses has been a major consideration throughout, and we want to reassure traders that everything is being done to limit disruption in the coming weeks.

''We'd like to thank people for their continued patience while everyone involved works hard to deliver this major enhancement and regeneration of the Market Place, creating an attractive space for Great Yarmouth for many years to come.''

The work to install new paving, benches, lighting and planters has included de-cluttering and re-landscaping and is designed to create a high-quality environment, encouraging people to spend more time in the town centre supporting shopping, dining and other activities, while preserving the historic character of the town centre.

The small amount of work that will remain to be completed after Easter includes repairs to the cobbled car park.

The project has been funded with finance from the Government's Future High Street Fund, which aims to renew and reshape town centres and high streets in a way that drives economic growth, improves experience and ensures long-term sustainability.
