Great Yarmouth Borough Council appeals for help in identifying people who carried out graffiti attacks

Great Yarmouth Borough Council is appealing for information to help identify three people who carried out a wave of graffiti attacks across the town.

In the course of one night, the vandals defaced dozens of buildings in the town and along the seafront. The council is now urging people or businesses who saw anything or might have CCTV footage to come forward to help identify those responsible.

The attacks happened between 1.30am and 4am on Thursday, February 20, and footage from 25 CCTV cameras has been used to track the route the culprits took.

The trio started defacing buildings in Bridge Road then made their way through Palmers car park, Market Place, King Street, Regent Road, Marine Parade to Wellington Pier. They returned to the town centre via St Peter's Road, Deneside, Market Place, North Quay, St Nicholas Road, Market Place and Hall Quay, before arriving back in Bridge Road shortly after 4am.

The three all wore dark clothing with hooded tops. Council officers are visiting businesses and owners of other premises that were attacked urging them to clear the graffiti and ensure they have reported the damage to police. Officers are also checking if people witnessed anything or have additional CCTV footage.

Councillor Paul Wells, Great Yarmouth Borough Council's portfolio holder for Environment and Sustainability, Licensing and Waste, said: ''Everyone is working incredibly hard to make our town tidier and cleaner.

''We are determined to do all we can to work with the police to bring these three to justice and will do all we can to identify them and see them prosecuted.

''We will not tolerate those who contribute to creating a negative impression of our community and we continue to work with residents, business owners and other partners as we all try to make Great Yarmouth safer and cleaner for everyone.

''We would urge anyone who has any information about the damage or any CCTV footage to contact the police as soon as possible.''

The council says it has been working successfully to encourage businesses and property owners to remove or cover graffiti and will continue to do so.
