Construction work starts on 61 new high-quality homes at East Wood site in Bradwell

Phase two of an ambitious new housing development at East Wood at Beacon Park in Bradwell has been launched with a ground-breaking ceremony.

Equinox Enterprises and Abode guests at the East Wood development ground-breaking ceremony

The development will see 61 homes delivered by Great Yarmouth Borough Council's housing company, Equinox Enterprises, with the building work being carried out by Abode Construction.

The attractive mix of high-quality and energy-efficient homes will see six two-bed, 20 three-bed semi-detached, three detached three-bed, seven four-bed and four five-bed properties built.

Of these, six homes will be for affordable rent and one for shared ownership. The first properties are due to be completed in November and will be marketed for sale via estate agents WH Brown. All of the homes are due to be built by December 2026.

The scheme is designed to support one of the council's priorities, which is to work towards an attractive mix of good-quality housing that is fit for purpose for all and meets both the borough's existing and future needs.

Abode was selected to carry out the construction as a Norfolk and Suffolk-based company with wide experience of working with local authorities to create lasting partnerships and deliver vibrant, sustainable places to live.

Councillor Daniel Candon, chairman of Equinox Enterprises and Great Yarmouth Borough Council's portfolio holder for Economic Development and Growth, said: ''We want to design and build quality housing in the borough to support the growing needs of our residents.

''We are delighted to be working with Abode Construction. It has a proven track record of delivering high-specification homes and are already making significant progress on the project.

''We are grateful to have the support of a fantastic professional team, including REAL Consulting, Ingleton Wood, DGL Quality Management and Rossi Long Consulting, who -alongside Abode - have worked incredibly hard to ensure planning deadlines were met.

''Equinox has big plans for the future, and we hope to continue to build on the successes here at East Wood and maintain a key position in the market as developers of quality.''

The new homes at East Wood will be more spacious and have bigger gardens than other new builds in the area. And Equinox says it has taken a 'fabric first' approach to maximise the energy efficiency of homes - all of which will be 'A' rated, ensuring they are sustainable, promote the improvement of comfort and health as well as reducing energy costs for residents.

Grant Keys, Managing Director of Abode Construction, and a former chairman of the Norwich Forum for the Construction Industry and Trustee of the Norfolk Construction Charitable Trust, said: ''We are delighted to be building these new homes on behalf of Equinox Enterprises and are excited about some of the innovative designs and sustainability elements these new properties will offer.

''Revitalising communities through the delivery of high-quality schemes is the mortar that holds us together at Abode and these new homes all have a bespoke design and will be an excellent new addition for the borough of Great Yarmouth.''

The new phase of work follows on from the 56 homes already delivered by Equinox Enterprises at East Wood. The council says the delivery of homes via a variety of methods - including through Equinox Enterprises - is in place to support housing growth for people in the borough.
