Anti-social behaviour injunction sees man banned from Great Yarmouth Town Centre and Gorleston High Street

A man who prompted numerous complaints about his anti-social behaviour has been banned from the centre of Great Yarmouth and Gorleston High Street.

An injunction has been imposed banning a man from Great Yarmouth town centre and Gorleston High Street

In a case brought by Great Yarmouth Borough Council, 57-year-old David Steventon is prohibited from being in the town centre, High Street in Gorleston and Kitchener Road Cemetery until November 6, 2025, except to access support services.

Great Yarmouth Magistrates' Court heard Steventon, who is of no fixed abode, had prompted complaints from the public and businesses for his anti-social behaviour outside the Sports Direct store in the town and outside the Boots shop in Gorleston High Street.

Steventon did not attend the court hearing but, in his absence, magistrates said they were satisfied his behaviour was in breach of Section 1 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 and the injunction was imposed.

A spokesperson for Great Yarmouth Borough Council said: ''Over a considerable period of time, officers and the outreach team had worked hard with support agencies and police to try to engage with the defendant.

''However, our efforts proved unsuccessful and court action became necessary as a last resort. The council is trying hard with its partners to make sure our communities are safe and welcoming and tackling anti-social behaviour is a key priority.

''When people's behaviour has a negative impact on the public and businesses we will take the necessary legal action to prevent it.''
