Almost 100 people attend landlords' forum event at Great Yarmouth Town Hall
Almost 100 people attended an event at Great Yarmouth Town Hall for landlords to hear updates and share their thoughts about the private rental sector.
Great Yarmouth Borough Council invited landlords in the borough to come along to offer support, advice and hear people's thoughts about a range of issues. The council said the forum was the first event in what will be ongoing dialogue, relationship building and working together with those in the sector.
Councillor Paul Wells, Great Yarmouth Borough Council's portfolio holder for Environment and Sustainability, Licensing and Waste, said: ''The forum was an excellent opportunity for people to meet other landlords, agents and council staff.
''The evening was a great success with a really good turnout, and I'd like to thank all those who attended. We were able to hear about issues which are important to landlords and there was information about important legislative and policy changes that might be on the horizon.''
Councillor Trevor Wainwright, leader of the Labour group at Great Yarmouth Borough Council, said: ''It is important for us to take a collaborative approach when we look at the private rental sector and the event meant we were able to listen to a wide range of views from landlords in round-table discussions.
''We will continue to engage with landlords as we look to share our vision for the borough and hope people will work alongside us on a range of shared objectives.''
Among the topics discussed during the evening were legal and policy updates; dispelling myths around the council's Housing and Homelessness Strategy; and whether there is a future for Selective Licensing.
Details around support for private rented sector landlords was also provided and plans are already in hand for future events to focus on energy efficiency and selective licensing.
