43 new beach huts on Great Yarmouth seafront available for annual hire

The first of 43 new beach huts on the seafront at Great Yarmouth are being installed this week, with work due to be complete on them all by the end of October.

A contractor has been appointed by Great Yarmouth Borough Council to carry out the work and is now undertaking the prefabrication on the site. Five huts are due to be ready this month, with 33 completed in September and the final four finished in October.

The huts are on the Esplanade, parallel to North Drive and just south of the restored Venetian Waterways, and initially they will be offered on an annual hire basis from April to March each year.

Councillor Graham Plant, Great Yarmouth Borough Council's portfolio holder for Operational Property and Asset Management, said: ''We are delighted the beach huts are due for completion.

''They will be a real asset on our seafront and will be a valuable addition for those who want to make the most of all the beach has to offer in Great Yarmouth. We are really pleased with the outcome and how good they look.

''Constantly enhancing the offer for residents and visitors to the borough is hugely important to us and these new beach huts demonstrate our commitment to improving facilities.''

A purpose-built base for the huts has been constructed and they will be recessed on a bespoke platform with views over the dunes, sandy beach and out to sea. There is also a dedicated amenity block to serve the huts and people leasing them will be allocated a key.

The Council is now looking for people to hire the new beach huts. An annual lease period would normally run from April 1 until March 31 and the hire cost would be £2,260 per annum for the 2024/25 season. The huts will therefore available to lease on a pro-rata basis until March 31, 2025.

That means if the hire period begins on October 1 this year and runs until March 31, 2025, the annual fee will reflect a day rate based on the per annum fee.

Those who have already expressed an interest in hiring the beach huts have been emailed to alert them to the availability.

The entire project is expected to cost £683,000 to complete, which includes the required work to install bases and to create the dedicated amenity block. The huts had been due for completion earlier this summer, however a new contractor had to be appointed following manufacturing issues.
